Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a period of time at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at treatment of liver. He published more than 647 peer-reviewed research papers, and registered 14 UK and International patents. He is currently CEO of NanoRegMed Ltd, working on the commercialisation of his research. During his career Prof Seifalian has led and managed many large projects with successful outcomes in terms of commercialisation and translation to patients. In 2007 he was awarded the top prize in the field for the development of nanomaterials and technologies for cardiovascular implants by Medical Future Innovation, and in 2009 he received a Business Innovation Award from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). He was the European Life Science Awards’ Winner of Most Innovative New Product 2012 for the “synthetic trachea”. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguish Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include development of the world first synthetic trachea, lacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. He has over 15,000 media report from his achievement, include BBC, ITV, WSJ, CNN, and many more. Currently he is working on development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology.

Dr. Rahul R. Panchal is an innovator, entrepreneurial, and savvy business professional with a strong background and experience in the area of medical device development including but not limited to disposable, implantable, surgical, drug delivery devices.he is the founder and president of Leonine Technologies Inc.

He is an inventor of acœmultivariate shrinkage sensor (MVSS)technology and currently pursuing the commercial development of MVSS technology under the National Science Foundation (NSF) small business innovation research (SBIR) grant program.

Russell Elliott, Ph.D., has served as the Vice President of Drug Development since May 2016. Dr. Elliott has over 25 years of industry experience, previously holding positions as Head of Skincare Technology at Lonza Inc. from 2015 to 2016, Head of Product Development at Stiefel (a GSK Company) from 2011 to 2014, Head of the Center of Excellence for Liquids, Cream and Ointments at GSK (UK) from 2007 to 2011, and Principal Scientist at Procter & Gamble from 1992 to 2007. He has filed more than 60 patent applications in the area of skincare formulation. Dr. Elliott has a PhD and MA from The University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Drug development

Paresh Vadgama has over 12 years of R&D experience of in the areas of liquid and lyophilized drug product development (vials, PFS and cartridges) for a spectrum of Biologicals (insulin(s), peptides, PEGylated proteins, mAbs, fusion proteins & bi-specific Abs). In his current role as the Formulation and Drug product development lead at AC Immune SA, Switzerland, he is responsible for CMC development of AC Immune’s NBE and NCE portfolios. Paresh has worked previously with several biotech/pharma companies across Asia and Europe such as Glenmark, Biocon (India & Malaysia), Lupin and Intas. He has overseen early to late-stage drug product development of multiple biosimilar and NBE programs spread across PoC to Phase 1, 2, and 3. He holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences with specialization in Drug Delivery from the prestigious Institute of Chemical Technology, India. His research interest includes high protein concentration formulation development, lyophilization cycle design and development, use of Quality by Design (QbD) concepts in process designing including CFD supported fill-finish operations and drug delivery device development for personalized medicines.

Sunil Kumar Panda, PhD, is currently serving as Director of Research & Development at Menovo Pharmaceuticals (Shanghai stock exchange enlisted company) in the People’s Republic of China. He has rich research work experience in formulation and development with top Indian pharmaceutical companies such as Zydus Cadila Healthcare, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Jubilant, and Unichem Laboratories limited. He is an academic consultant to the Government College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, India. With 14 years of research experience in India and abroad, he has received many international grants for pursuing his research. He is listed as a foreign research expert in the People’s Republic of China.

His professional research work has focused on complex formulation, and in particular, he has looked at multi-unit particle systems (MUPS), extended release dosage forms, and Nano suspension. He holds a World Intellectual Property Organization patent on delayed-release suspension and has published several international papers in peer-reviewed journals. His current research work involves 505 b (2) and Para IV invalidation for products in the USA market.

Professor Istvan TOTH is Chair in Biological Chemistry & Professor of Pharmacy, The University of Queensland (UQ), Brisbane, Australia; Affiliated Professorial Research Fellow and Group Leader, Institute of Molecular Biosciences, UQ. He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University, Budapest, Hungary in 1969 and was awarded his PhD in 1972 for research in Alkaloid Chemistry. In 1994 he was awarded a DSc for his work on drug delivery. Prof. Toth moved from the School of Pharmacy at the University of London to the University of Queensland in 1998, and leads a productive medicinal chemistry research group (presently 30 members). He is an elected RACI Fellow, Fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences and Fellow (External) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 2009 he was awarded the Adrian Albert award for sustained and outstanding research in medicinal biochemistry. He has over 400 peer-reviewed publications (>500 citations/year since 2012), 44 patents, and a strong record in research commercialization.His research has attracted over $84 million in competitive grants, research contracts and investment funds in the past 10 years, including an NHMRC Program grant, which is now in its fourth successive 5-year term and a recent NHMRC Project Grant.
